New York

Ironically, the best escapes are hiding in our own backyard. Skip the annual migration to the Hamptons, avoid the inevitable stress that goes along with (non-VETTED) travel, and visit these local gems: 1) The Greenwich Hotel; 2) The William Vale; 3) Glenmere Mansion.

The Greenwich Hotel

Manhattan, NY

Robert De Niro’s brainchild boasts European charm and elegance in Tribeca. It’s character stems from its owner: guest rooms feature Moroccan tile and Carrara marble while the Parisian courtyard (salvaged from NYC’s Flatiron Building) offers an idyllic escape from the outside world. The Japanese spa offers a candle-lit, indoor pool that oozes peace and tranquility. And finally, VETTED’s pro tip: hotel guests can order room service from the hotel’s in-house restaurant, Andrew Carmellini’s Locanda Verde. Avoid the scene, order the Paccheri and My Grandmother’s Ravioli and enjoy a bottle of red in the romantic confines of your room. It will be an experience you remember, for years to come.

The William Vale

Williamsburg, NY

If you’re like us, Brooklyn is always high on the list, but seldom if ever visited. Williamsburg (just a 5-10-minute subway from lower Manhattan) is home to luxury hotel The William Vale, which combines funk and luxury while offering breathtaking views of the NYC skyline and the city’s largest rooftop pool. Each room has its own futuristic swagger, complete with private terrace to enjoy the cinematic views of Manhattan. While the property offers cuisine from two of the city’s top chefs (Carmellini!), we recommend venturing out. Michelin-starred chef Missy Robbins Lilia and the more recently unveiled Misi are just a short walk through McCarren Park. Now for VETTED’s pro tip (adventurous eaters and foodies apply here!): head over to East Williamsburg and check out Blanca (located within Brooklyn staple, Roberta’s) for what will undoubtedly be the most hip and impressive tasting experience of your life. You’ll leave with full bellies, hearts and feelings of euphoria.

Glenmere Mansion

Chester, NY

Host to royalty, aristocracy and leading artists a mere century ago, it’s no wonder that we’ve got a whole lotta love for this luxury boutique hotel and spa. Situated just 90 minutes from Manhattan, Glenmere Mansion is secluded atop a hill in Chester, NY. But as you pass through the ornate iron gates and continue your ascent, you’ll feel as if you have been magically transported to a Tuscan estate. Beautifully manicured gardens and lake views grace the estate’s surroundings. Once you step inside (the house butler will greet you immediately upon arrival), you will marvel in the impeccably designed interiors, featuring a museum-worthy collection of private modern art and fine antiques. With just 18 guest rooms, two superb restaurants and exceptional recreational facilities including a full-service spa with bath house/hammam, a discerning few will rediscover in Glenmere a model of refined relaxation. As a short description simply cannot do this property justice, be sure to do the following: 1) SPA: not to be missed, Glenmere goes above and beyond here…think marble, private plunge pools and steam rooms within your own spa-suite; 2) Chill: kick back with a good book next to one of the many fireplaces, enjoy the self-playing piano while sipping on a craft cocktail; 3) Shop: the mansion is located just ten minutes from Woodbury Commons Premium outlets…if you’re unfamiliar, this is by far and beyond the most expansive and high-end offering of its kind on the East coast. While the Glenmere trek entails a bit more travel and may require you to cough up a couple more shekels than its “staycation” peers, trust us, it is WELL worth it. Stay tuned and don’t miss out on a future VETTED takeover!
